EMERGENCY FIRST AID
This 8 hour course provides the minimum level of first aid training required by the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and is recognized as EMERGENCY FIRST AID with CPR Level A.
This course is suited for the workplace environment and gives participants critical knowledge and the confidence to effectively manage an emergency without panic or confusion. The focus is on giving first aid for common injuries that could occur in the workplace or at home; such as shock, unconsciousness, fainting, choking, adult CPR, and severe bleeding. It gives participants the basic skills needed to contain injuries and in many cases, save lives.
National Certification, valid for three (3) years, is awarded upon successful completion.
STANDARD FIRST AID
This 16 hour course is recognized as STANDARD FIRST AID with CPR Level C by the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.
This course introduces and expands on the theory and skills necessary to support life until emergency medical services arrive in the event of an emergency situation. In this course the participant will learn about common medical problems and practice first aid skills including: control of bleeding poisoning, shock management, fractures and dislocations and many more. Also included is adult, child and infant choking and CPR. Calgary's emergency medical services including the 911 telephone access systems will be reviewed and discussed. This course is the minimum requirement for emergency services and other healthcare providers, and is recommended for anyone wanting a higher level of first aid training.

AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATION (AED)
Automated External Defibrillators are being placed in workplaces, public facilities and forums, remote worksites and in many rural areas.
This 4 hour course will provide you with a basic understanding of the structure and function of the heart (mechanical and electrical), and understanding of life-threatening electrical impulses, principles of defibrillation, rationale of early defibrillation, history, components, and how to safely operate an AED.
Pre-requisites: Minimum CPR Level A within the past 12 months. AED Certificate issued upon successful completion.
