Backhoe Operator Training
Introduction
The purpose of this course is to educate people who perform backhoe operations on the rules, regulations and proper application of safe work practices and operating procedures involved in day-to-day activity. It is designed for individuals who have a basic understanding of, or who are actively involved in these activities.
Classroom exercises involve the use of many hands-on training aids, and visual and audio-visual materials. The practical portion of the course requires the use of a backhoe. The backhoe must be in safe, acceptable, certified working condition in accordance with safety regulations, prior to course commencement.
Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, the operator will be able to demonstrate:
1. The safe operation of a rubber-tired backhoe.
2. The correct performance of pre-operation checks and field maintenance procedures.
3. The safe loading, unloading, and securing of a backhoe on a proper trailer for transportation.
4. The correct application of specifications from a manufacturer's operating manual.
5. Understand Occupational Health and Safety Regulations with regards to employer/employee/supplier responsibilities, and the General Safety Regulations.
6. Identify any site-specific rules or procedures that may apply.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants are issued a Certificate of Recognition of this achievement. This course is not designed to certify individuals as highly skilled backhoe operators, as only through practice and use of the prescribed safe operating procedures will skill level increase.
